The 2024 National Highland Cattle Show will be held in Geelong from 7th to 9th of June 2024 at the Geelong Showground. The venue has excellent facilities for hosting the Show, including roomy undercover shelter for the cattle and exhibitors (generally a good idea for Victoria’s winters), and plenty of wash bays and power points.
The National Show Committee extends a special invitation to all newcomers and novices interested in showing their own cattle, or those wanting to become involved in showing cattle, to take the plunge and join us at the Show. There will be plenty of learning opportunities and time to practice your ringcraft before the main event, and you will find that the Highland show community is supportive and always willing to lend a helping hand. Please feel free to contact us in advance if you require some assistance and we will help make it happen!
Friday 7th June: this first day will be dedicated to education and show practice, and the ideal opportunity for novice exhibitors to learn skills and practice their show craft. Students from local schools will also be invited to attend these educational events. There will be plenty of opportunity for more handlers practice on the Saturday.
Saturday 8th June: Paraders and judging classes will be held in the morning, ending with the crowd favourites – the fiercely competition Calf and Costume Classic classes. The AHCS AGM will take place at the venue in the late afternoon.
Sunday 9th June: begins with judging of stud cattle by our international Highland judge, and will culminate in the selection of the prestigious Supreme Highland exhibit. The Show will be live streamed on Facebook so family, friends and fellow enthusiasts from all over the world can participate.
Both Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th will be open to the public.
There will be catered social functions for all exhibitors, helpers, and volunteers at the show venue on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening, and the emphasis will be on informal functions with plenty of opportunity to mingle and socialize with fellow enthusiasts, concluding with the Show Dinner on Sunday evening. Further details on these functions will be provided soon.
